I created this cute Halloween design with black cats for Spoonflower’s Retro Halloween challenge earlier this year, and ended up turning it into a collection, with designs highlighting the other motifs as well. I’m a big fan of midcentury patterns and art, and will definitely be making more in this style in future.
Cute Midcentury Modern Retro Halloween Pattern
The first design includes cute black cats, bats, skulls and pumpkins, along with the usual starbursts, sparkles and other geometric shapes you often see with this style. I did four colourways, with olive green, purple, brown and light peach backgrounds. The green and peach are my joint favourites, but I entered the green in the contest, since it’s more of a retro palette.
Cute Midcentury Modern Retro Halloween Bats Pattern
This version has the flying bats, plus the starbursts etc.
Cute Midcentury Modern Retro Halloween Pumpkins Pattern
Here is a pumpkin design, this time on a black background. I didn’t do a black version for the cats or bats, since that wouldn’t really have worked with black motifs.
Cute Midcentury Modern Retro Halloween Skulls Pattern
This one has cute skulls (also available in black, as well as the four main colours).

Finally, a blender, with the stars and sparkles.
You can find all of these patterns in the collection page on Spoonflower here, along with coordinating solids. They’re available on fabric, wallpaper and home decor items like pillows – everything you need for a cute midmod Halloween this year!
