I’ve just finished exercise 16 from Block 3 of Evolve Artist. This one was painted from life.
I’m fairly pleased with this one; the colours are correct, although some of the values are wrong. It would be easier if I could just paint what I see, but in Block 3 we still have to work within certain rules to simplify the process, and they trip me up sometimes. I chose several simple objects again, rather than a couple of more complex ones. This was so I could get more colour mixing practice. I also don’t own ornaments, or enjoy painting the usual household objects a lot of Evolve students use in their still lifes. So I bought a few items like these artificial eggs and other shapes to use for these exercises, and for general drawing practice. It’s easy to just give them a coat of acrylic paint to create new colour schemes.
Four more to go for Block 3! It has taken a while, but I feel like I’m making some progress now.
