Pumpkin, Lime and Pot Painting Exercise – Block 3 #6

I finished another exercise for Evolve Artist. This painting is number six from Block 3, and was painted from life.

Pumpkin, Lime and Pot - oil painting exercise on canvas. Evolve Artist Block 3 #6

Evolve Artist Block 3, #6 – Pumpkin, Lime and Pot. Oil on canvas.

I was in two minds about including the pumpkin, after I did a bad job on the pumpkin in my final Block 1 painting. But I got over my fear of them! Of course this one was easier, since there are no gradients. This exercise is actually the final painting in Block 3 without gradients, and I’ve enjoyed having a break from them. I just hope I haven’t lost the knack after a few weeks of not painting any 🙂

I thought this exercise came out okay, although I don’t love it. It’s one that would look better with the actual colours of the objects, rather than the greyscale shadow values we still have to use at this stage. I’m really looking forward to getting to Block 4 and making ‘real’ paintings. But I’m also trying to enjoy the journey and not keep wanting to be further along, especially since I plan to do the Advanced course at Evolve after finishing the Foundation, so I still have a long way to go!
